First Wonder of the Ancient World – Pyramid of Giza
By admin On February 19th, 2010Just by looking at it, you won’t doubt that this is indeed a wonder of the ancient world. And would you believe that this is the one and only wonder that still exists up to this moment? The Great Pyramid of Giza which is also called the Pyramid of Khufu and the Pyramid of Cheops is the oldest and largest of the three pyramids in the Giza Necropolis. This is now the El Giza in Egypt. Even if it is the oldest among the seven, it is also the only existing. I was amazed when I read that originally it was covered by casing stones that formed a smooth outer surface and what is seen today is the underlying core structure. After all being the tallest structure for 3,800 years, it is still standing tall and making the Eqyptians proud of what they had built.
The Great Pyramid of Giza the oldest of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World and the only one that survives substantially intact. It is believed the pyramid was built as a tomb for fourth dynasty Egyptian Pharaoh Khufu (Cheops in Greek) and constructed over a 20 year period concluding around 2551 BC. The Great Pyramid was the tallest man-made structure in the world for over 3,800 years.
